Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly are AI credits?
One credit ≈ one AI action: generating a board from text or an image, or one Claude co-editor request. Normal drawing, collaboration, import, and export never consume credits — you only pay for AI you actually use.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Downgrading to Free keeps every board you made — you just fall back to Free limits for new work. Boards stay exportable as SVG, Mermaid, or Board JSON on every plan, so your data is never held hostage.
Is my data sent to AI?
Only what you explicitly submit to the AI features — the text, Mermaid, or image you hand to generation, or the board you ask Claude to edit. Normal editing and collaboration never call an AI model, and AI output is sanitized before it is stored or rendered.
Can AI agents edit my boards?
Yes — noddle is agent-native. Create a scoped API token, point the bundled MCP server at it, and agents can read, create, and edit boards as themselves. They appear in room presence under their own name, so you always know who drew what.
How is noddle different from draw.io or Excalidraw?
draw.io is a powerful but fully manual editor; Excalidraw is a lovely sketchy canvas. noddle's bet is the combination: a real diagram engine (smart orthogonal arrows, stencils, multi-page boards, version history) plus AI that actually participates — drafting boards from text or photos and editing live in the room as a co-editor. And it imports your existing draw.io files, so trying it costs nothing.
Can I import from draw.io?
Yes. Upload a .drawio or .xml file (plain or compressed) and noddle converts it into an editable board — including multiple pages, groups, waypoints, and edge labels. Mermaid and Board JSON imports work too.
Can I self-host it?
Yes — the editor is open source (MIT) as noddle-dev/noddle-draw: one docker compose up gives you the full anonymous board — draw, collaborate, share by link, BYOK AI. Accounts, teams, SSO and managed ✦ AI credits are the Cloud layer at board.noddle.dev (see the comparison above).
